Our school is a close community, our students and our families all know, love and support each other. Tamariki mix across the year levels and a Tuakana-Teina approach is adopted to help children learn from each other and encourage each other. We have four whānau groups which help to build these connections across the school. These whānau groups read together, complete group challenge activities together and work to gain points to try to win the whānau group cup at the end of the year.
At Maranatha Christian School we are committed to creating an environment and culture where effective learning and teaching take place. Our outdoor environment includes junior and senior playgrounds, large fields, bush tracks and the favourite playing place - the bank. Our classrooms are centred around a covered courtyard which provides a meeting place for morning worship, as well as a space for eating and socialising. Our classes are equipped with modern furniture and resources including IT devices in each classroom.
We provide a learning programme with a strong emphasis on literacy and numeracy, physical education sessions twice a week and cultural and art opportunities. Science, technology, history and geography are taught through termly topics which also integrate literacy and numeracy where possible.
At Maranatha Christian School we recognise that parents are the first teachers of their children. The teachers provide frequent classroom updates, and all teachers welcome conversations with parents to help ensure success for each child. Families are encouraged to play an active part in their child’s education both inside and outside the classroom.
